Busted are back.
For those who don't know, Busted originally formed in 2000, took a break in 2005 and have recently reformed - much to the excitement of fans. Busted are; Charlie Simpson, James Bourne and Matt Willis.
Today we'll be talking about their most recent release - 'On What You're On'.
Initial reaction: This is different.
I would say that Busted have matured in their sound (no wonder - it has been a decade!) and consequently the guitar infused pop sound has long gone. Instead, the sound that hits you first in 'On What You're On' is a more synth orientated, mellow groove.
One thing I particularly enjoyed about the track was the chilling saxophone solo three quarters of the way through.
Right from the start you feel the groove begin to build with punchy drums, a throbbing bass line that you can't help but tap your feet to and the introduction of synths.
Charlie's vocal has matured and adds a raw, mellow yet enhancing tone to the mix.
This is complimented by James and Matt's vocal on some of the other verses. I liked the contrast that this provided between different sections of the song.
Overall, it's different and not what some may have expected from Busted's comeback but the more I listen to 'On What You're On', the more I like its feel good vibes.
Busted's new album 'Night Driver' is set for release in November.
Until next time...
